Have you ever noticed that politicians have a problem telling the truth? Or doing what they say they will? People run for office claiming they will only serve a certain number of terms and then stay around a lot longer. Peter Hoekstra, the republican from Michigan did that. Said he would only stay for 3 terms. That was in the 1992 election that saw the Republicans take over congress. 16 years later, he’s still there. If AIG was too big to fail, I guess Pete is to important to leave.
On the other side of the coin, there’s politicians that say they will complete their term before running for another office. People like Hillary Cllinton, who told that to the voters of New York, then turned around and ran for president.
That sort of thing doesn’t just happen in Washington. Here’s a video of Lucas County (OH) Commissioner Ben Konop. Back a couple years ago when he was running for county commissioner, Konop signed not 1 but 2 pledges that he would serve his full 4 years. Then, after just over 2 years in office, he announced that he was running for Mayor of Toledo.
Konop decided to hold a press conference in front of the house his mother grew up in. What he didn’t expect was that he’d have heckler at his press conference. Maybe all politicians should be treated this way.
You read that right. ABC’s new Senior Medical Editor, Dr. Richard Besser was a contributor to the Obama presidential campaign. Not only that, back in 1994 he told then First Lady Hilary Clinton during a health care summit that as one of the doctors there, he was 100% behind her and Universal Health Care.
I guess we know where Dr. Bresser and ABC News will stand on the President’s government run health care program don’t we.

Let me start by saying that I’m not a baseball fan. I know, Unamerican and all that. I used to be a huge fan. In fact, when I lived in Texas my wife and I used to love to go watch the Rangers. The old Rangers, Charlie Hough, Nolan Ryan, Bobby Valentine in the dugout. Those were the days. As a matter of fact, one year we bought tickets to EVERY home Friday night game. It was our date night.
Then, they went on strike. Bunch of men playing a boys game, making millions of dollars a year and they went on strike. So we did what everyone should have done. We went on strike. I haven’t attended a ballgame, or watched one on television for almost 20 years now.
I still appreciate the game, I’m just not going to waste my time on it.
One thing I do appreciate though is perfection. That’s why I enjoyed it when a friend sent me this video. In case you missed it, Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox pitched a perfect game today against the Tampa Bay Rays.
What is a perfect game in baseball? Author Paul Dickson in The New Baseball Dictionary (1999) describes it best with, “A no-hitter in which no opposing player reaches first base, either by a base hit, base on balls, hit batter, or fielding error; i.e., the pitcher or pitchers retire all twenty-seven opposing batters in order.”
Only 18 guys in baseball history have ever done it. That’s pretty impressive even if you don’t follow, or even care for, baseball.
In case you missed seeing the game, thanks to YouTube, here’s EVERY out, all 27 of them, in Buehrle’s perfect game.
