Granite Slab with Image of Jesus to be Donated to Church

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. That way you won't miss out on any of the stupid things I find in the world around us.

The Dallas Morning News, and Assist News Service reports that a granite slab at an East Dallas stone company is drawing a lot of attention because it is “stained with what some think is an image of Jesus”.

According to the article the company has received a number of offers for the slab, which normally would sell for $1,500.00. The company owner has decided that rather than sell the slab, he is going to donate it to the a Roman Catholic Church in Oklahoma, to do with whatever they want.

I don’t get it. People are driving by the business, trying to get a look at the “Jesus Slab”, offers are pouring in from people wanting to buy it, next thing you know it will become a shrine and people will be coming there and lighting candles in front of it.

It’s nuts. Is the image of Jesus on the slab? Who knows. Last time I checked, we didn’t have any photographs or portraits or anything else that showed us what Jesus looked like. That familiar portrait that hangs in so many Protestant churches? You know the long haired blue eyed guy? Not him.

Jesus was a Jewish man who lived around Jerusalem 2000 years ago. In all likelihood, if he was typical of the Jewish men of his time, he was probably about 5′7″ or 5′8″, had a dark complexion and probably shorter curly black hair.

Is that the image on the slab? I rather doubt it. But somehow, just like on the imfamous Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich and a lot of other images, someone has decided that the imperfection in the rock MUST be the image of Jesus.

Grow up people! Nobody knows what Jesus looked like. And if nobody knows what he looked like, what makes you think that it’s his image on the slab. Maybe it’s the image of Satan, just trying to confuse the simple minded among us.

Like I said, nobody knows what Jesus looked like, yet people will swear his image is on a slab of granite in Texas. I still don’t get it.
