I don’t get it. You have a restaurant. You want customers. Isn’t that the way business is supposed to work? Apparently not in New Zealand.
I saw a news report today that Israelis were banned from two popular restaurants in New Zealand this week. Why? Because they were Israelis.
In Kaikoura, an Israeli who lived there and had been to the Strawberry Tree pub many times was shocked to find a sign on the door that read “”Israelis not welcome before shelling stops”.
In another part of the country, two Israeli tourists were thrown out of a restaurant when the own discovered their nationality. The Turkish Muslim owner said that he would not serve Israelis until Israel “stops killing innocent babies and women in Gaza.”
I assume he means the same Gaza that randomly fired over 3,000 rockets into Israel in 2008, up until the Israeli government decided to defend itself.
What makes people in New Zealand hate Israelis? The only thing I can think of is they are spending too much time getting their news from the main stream media. It seems to me the media never met a terrorist they didn’t like, or an Israeli they didn’t hate.
Try as I might, I still don’t get it.
