The Proper Way To Treat Politicians

Posted by John Willis on July 30, 2009 in News |

Have you ever noticed that politicians have a problem telling the truth? Or doing what they say they will? People run for office claiming they will only serve a certain number of terms and then stay around a lot longer. Peter Hoekstra, the republican from Michigan did that. Said he would only stay for 3 terms. That was in the 1992 election that saw the Republicans take over congress. 16 years later, he’s still there. If AIG was too big to fail, I guess Pete is to important to leave.

On the other side of the coin, there’s politicians that say they will complete their term before running for another office. People like Hillary Cllinton, who told that to the voters of New York, then turned around and ran for president.

That sort of thing doesn’t just happen in Washington. Here’s a video of Lucas County (OH) Commissioner Ben Konop. Back a couple years ago when he was running for county commissioner, Konop signed not 1 but 2 pledges that he would serve his full 4 years. Then, after just over 2 years in office, he announced that he was running for Mayor of Toledo.

Konop decided to hold a press conference in front of the house his mother grew up in. What he didn’t expect was that he’d have heckler at his press conference. Maybe all politicians should be treated this way.
